A Well-Rounded You
Did you know that by adopting a more well-rounded view of your health, it can help you to look and feel your best? Working on one area, such as your physical health, can also help improve other areas, like your mental health. This is called “whole health.” Your health care team and your caregiver if you have one can help you develop a personalized whole health plan based on your needs, and goals.
Whole health for you depending upon your current health status may mean working on areas such as:
- Diet: A healthy diet makes for a healthy body and can have a positive impact on your mental and social health.
- Physical Activity: Staying in shape helps keep you strong and healthy and elevates your mood.
- Sleep: Getting adequate, quality sleep equips you to meet every health challenge.
- Relationships: How you relate to others impacts your physical, mental, and emotional health.
To get onto the right path of whole health living start by trying one new exercise this week that benefits your whole body, such as yoga. Talk to your health care team including your caregiver about other things you can do that will help to improve the health of your mind, body, and soul.
Whole Health – Healthy Living Goals
To get started there are a variety of physical activities that are low impact that you can do to help improve many areas of your health:
- Yoga: slow movements to control breathing for better flexibility and relaxation.
- Walking Meditation: mindful walking where you are more aware of your environment and surroundings while moving.
- Tai Chi: graceful movements done in a fluid manner to build strength, increase flexibility, and reduce stress
- Pilates: similar to yoga, but is more focused on building strength and endurance
A well-rounded you is important if you want to continue to live independently, age in place while you kick-up your heels and enjoy all that life has to offer. So, keep your “whole health” in mind and develop your personalized whole health plan today!
